Being Black in America: Healthcare Edition (pt2 Research)

    

    As a Black woman, I am aware of many of the health issues that impact my community disproportionately. Due to this, I started with a broad search on Proquest public health database. I searched "Black healthcare disparity" or "Black healthcare inequity." However, I found that searching on Proquest provided me with scholarly journals all reporting the same information. The Proquest scholarly journal discussed the barriers in healthcare for Black men. Due to the lack of diverse research on Proquest, I expanded my search. I then focused my search specifically on Black women. I discovered three articles concerning maternal mortality. The first two were articles from the Center for Disease Control. The first article covered how the public and the healthcare system can combat Black pregnancy-related deaths. The second article was centered around data and statistics. The third was by the National Institutes of Health. The report was on a study of the racial disparity in pregnancy and the specific causes. After having an easier time locating research on Google, I broadened my search there. I looked up "Health inequity facing the Black Community." I came across three articles. Each of which covered health issues affecting the Black community as a whole.

     I believe the last three articles will be most helpful because they mentioned many of the health issues I was aware of and data to support them. I feel the first CDC article will also be helpful. The reason is that it is the only article to propose solutions to the problem.
